On being different
by Carrie Greene

Imagine you are a jazz fan but decide to go to a hip-hop concert. You want to find out what it is all about and broaden your knowledge. You imagine there is a lot in common between the two kinds of music. You expect to gain something from attending, and you might even end up liking it.  ... Can you imagine how this might be similar for an ADHD coach who does not herself have ADHD?

During the recent ACO Conference I felt strange, I was in the minority. I kept hearing people say that they felt so comfortable being able to "let their guard down and just be their own ADHD selves." I was being myself too, but yet somehow I felt like I had a secret, like I was a fraud. I wondered — Do I really qualify to be in the club? Can I really be an ADHD coach? I don’t have ADHD.
